Following a Home Office announcement in December 2023, the minimum salary threshold for a UK skilled worker application will rise by more than 50% from £26,200 at present to £38,700 in Spring 2024. This announcement has immediately caused a great deal of concern, not least because it is more than double the UK minimum wage. It is very likely that this change will be challenged by lawyers like ourselves in the High Court.
Health and care workers, and roles such as teachers with national pay scales, are exempt from the increased salary threshold.
In addition, the new changes include the removal of the 20% salary discount for shortage occupation roles. This is very disappointing news for many skilled workers.
We will update these pages with more information as and when it becomes available when the new rules and salary requirements take effect.
